<두 도시 이야기> 영문판.
1859년에 발표된 장편소설. 칼라일의 <프랑스 혁명사>(1937)를 읽고 영감을 얻은 디킨스가 프랑스 혁명을 배경으로 런던과 파리를 무대로 하여 쓴 역사소설이다.
런던의 변호사 시드니 커튼은 사랑하는 여성 루시 마네트가 혁명정부에 의하여 처형당하게 되자 그녀 대신 자진하여 단두대에 선다. 한 남자의 순수한 사랑 이야기가 광란의 프랑스 혁명을 배경으로 긴박한 플롯으로 전개되고 있다.
